Stuck In A Rut? Think Like A Cuber!

It can be very lonely being a business owner. If you are self employed you can frequently be on your own with no support. To be honest that is why I like networking so much it allows me to be around like minded people.

I have spoken to many business owners that are doubting themselves. Just the other day I had a conversation with a business owner who told me they were planning on giving up. They said with the amount time and effort they were putting into their business they would be better off getting a job.

This is not uncommon, I personally have felt like quitting a number of times. Brad Burton is the UK's Number 1 Motivational Business Speaker. He founded 4Networking and is super successful. And yet he wanted to quit and close 4Networking no less than 11 times. So thinking about quitting happens to the best of us.

I know there are going to be people reading this that are thinking of quitting. Many running a business is too hard, maybe they are struggling financially. Whatever the reason I have to be honest with you. Quitting is a bad idea, I can honestly say if I had quit I would be in a much worse place than I am now. So my advice is simple

"Think Like a Speed Cuber!"

Allow me to explain. I love playing with Rubik Cubes. I solve them for fun and I am always trying to improve my solve time. I also perform magic with them. In fact here is a clip of me performing magic with a cube at a recent wedding.

Here is the thing about a Rubik Cube. Before they are mixed up you can see exactly how they are meant to look. It is obvious which piece fits where. However when you start to mix the cube it can look jumbled very quickly. If you have never used a Rubik Cube before you will probably have no idea what you need to do in order to fix it.

As you mix the cube things look more and more hopeless. Every twist and turn takes you further away from where you want to be. In fact you probably start to doubt you will ever be able to solve it.

However here is the thing with a Rubik Cube. The maximum amount of moves that is needed to solve the cube is twenty twists. That means however mixed up the cube looks you can get back to your starting point very quickly. You just need to know which twists and turns you have to make. The other thing is it is not that hard to learn how to solve a Rubik Cube. It looks impossible but it really isn't. I learnt to solve a cube in one afternoon after watching a bunch of youtube videos. The best part is once you have learnt to solve it you will know how to do it for the rest of your life. In fact it becomes easier and easier.

Do You See Where I Am Going With This?

Solving a Rubik Cube is like having a problem with you business. You start knowing exactly what your business should look like. However as you start to work on things problems present themselves and you have to make decisions you didn't expect. After a very short time you look at your situation and it looks hopeless. Even worse every way you turn and every decision you make seems to make things worse. Eventually you end up in a situation where you think you will never be successful.

However just like a Rubik Cube success is closer than you think. All you have to do is make sure that you educate yourself. This might be getting in a consultant, hiring a business coach or doing some studying online. Whatever the solution I promise you there is no situation you cannot overcome with enough determination. And once you have solved your problem you will look back wondering why there was ever a problem in the first place.

So next time you have a problem and you are thinking of quitting just think of the humble Rubik Cube and I promise you that you will realise things are not as bad as they seem.
